If you've ever stayed up until 2 a.m. to finish the last page...
If you've ever cuddled up with a child to read a story...
If you've ever had a library card in your pocket...
You're not just a lover of books, you could be a library's Friend.
The Friends of the City of Mesa Library (FCML) group helps make a great library even better
.

What is a Friend?

The Friends of the City of Mesa Library (FCML) is a nonprofit organization whose members work to support one of Mesa's finest resources, our three public libraries, through fundraising and advocacy. As a 501(c)3 organization, donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Your Mesa libraries are open to you and to everyone, free of charge.  The two branch locations are open at least six days a week, and the main library is open seven.  On-line resources are available 24/7.  The library is not only a source of information and inspiration but is also an everyday destination for children, students, teahers, families, seniors, and readers of every kind.

As the city continues to experience financial challenges, your participation in the Friends of the City of Mesa Library is needed more than ever since the library faces budget cuts of $500,000 for Fiscal Year 08/09.  These cuts will impact staffing, library programs, and book and subscription purchases.

2008 Membership Campaign

The City of Mesa Public Library recently presented a "Wish List" to FCML for the 2008 Membership campaign. One of our goals for the current year is to raise monies to fund the top three items on the Library's wish list.

  • Fund "Big Cozy Book" furniture for Children's Areas.  This product, scaled to children size, provides appealing tables and seating designed to look like books.  Examples can be seen at the company's website at www.bigcozybooks.com. Your donated item can be marked with your company's name.  Prices vary from $425 to $8,000, with a total project cost of $15,000.
  • Fund installation of a Field Loop System in the Saguaro Meeting Room.  This system will help the hearing impared to hear better when attending meetings in this room.  The Field Loop System works for people with a "T" setting on their hearing aids.  Project cost is $1,000.
  • Fund slat shelves to display books on end panels.  These shelves have been shown to increase book circulation by allowing the front covers of books to be displayed.  Price: $215 per shelf.
